Rome Consensus 2.0 at the 65th UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs on March 14th-18th 2022

We’re very happy to share some exciting news with you regarding two very important events that will promote humanitarian drug policies, and will take place during the 65th UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna on March 14th-18th 2022. Most importantly, the Rome Consensus 2.0 group wants you to play an active role and be part of this! 
March 15th, 2022 The Vienna NGO Committee on Drugs is co-sponsoring several side events at this year’s CND (14-18 March 2022) and has been asked to nominate speakers. All events will be held online, and among those there will be one organized by the Italian Government on Tuesday, 15th March 11.10PM (CET): “The Humanitarian approach to drug policy: opportunities and challenges for effective cooperation between public authorities and health-based organizations”
CALL FOR SPEAKERS – The organizer is the Italian Government, among the speakers there will be: Minister Ms. Fabiana Dadone, in charge of national drug policy, Dr. Massimo Barra on behalf of IFRC, and the leadership of UNODC, WHO, and Pompidou Group. During the panel, the Rome Consensus 2.0 initiative will be presented as a good practice of effective cooperation between government and CSOs, and since you are among the signatories and supporters of the RC2 statement, we would like to encourage you to submit your application as the VNGOC are currently looking for one civil society speaker.

Selected candidates will be notified the week of 28th February. The call is open to all civil society organizations, and applications are especially encouraged from women, minority groups and those organizations that share and believe in the Rome Consensus 2.0 goals and principles
March 14th, 2022 The Rome Consensus 2.0 group will present an additional side event: “Police and Drug Treatment Together: The Global Emergence of Deflection as a Humanitarian Crime Reduction Approach to Drugs” organized by Chicago T.A.S.C. Inc. with the support of the Council of Europe, Pompidou Group,Knowmad Institut gemeinnützige UG (haftungsbeschränkt) and The Villa Maraini Foundation/Italian Red CrossThe event will be presented online at 1:00 PM (CET) on March 14th, 2022. Among the panelists there will be representatives from South Africa Police Services (SAPS) and two NGO’s organizations that we selected among the Rome Consensus 2.0 signatories. Soon you will discover who has been selected among the candidates who applied in January. The e-flyers along with the official invitation to join both events will be shared in the upcoming weeks.
